This stunning quilt is the perfect accent for your vintage home and will add a lovely splash of color. You'll find every color imaginable in a mix of florals, dots, geometrics and stripes. This quilt was made by my mom's cousin's wife's mother. I kid you not. :) It is at least 95 years old, and was recently discovered in the home of my grandmother's sister who is 97. This quilt has been unused for many years, if ever used, and stored in a plastic bag in a closet, away from all light.
Fabrics are feedsacks, most are cotton but there is a hint of polyester in a few of them. Binding and backing are beige, made from a heavy muslin. There is some minor beige staining on the muslin and at least one small spot on the quilt front. I believe the inside layer is a bed sheet, which has not worn through the quilt top or backing. There is a narrow border. The quilt blocks in this quilt have been machine sewn together (yes, it's possible at this age of quilt!). The quilting holding the three layers together has all been done by hand, 4-5 stitches per inch. The quilting is around each block and in an X through each block. Blocks are approximately 6". This quilt has an age odor that I did not attempt to get out.
This beautiful quilt measures approximately 74" x 88", perfect for a twin size bed. It will also be a stunning bed coverlet, adding a dash of sparkle to a twin, queen or king size bed.
CARE I do not know if this quilt has been washed or not. I have not washed it and have no knowledge of washing antique quilts.
