It's a wonderful day to share another stunning quilt design with you!  This is the Gradient quilt pattern - an elegant and modern quilt design that creates a beautiful ombre effect using 7 fabrics.  Available in 6 unique sizes - Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.

This quilt is on the cover of the printed pattern.  The printed pattern comes in professional Booklet form, with all of the pages neatly stapled together on beautiful smooth paper.

The Gradient quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Meet Gradient - Our Newest Quilt Design!

If you're looking for a quick and easy quilt pattern with wow value, Gradient is all of that and more.  I've loved making the three Gradient quilts I made for this quilt pattern release and found them to be very quick and easy.  The pattern includes simple cutting, simple piecing, with ironing instructions included to take all of the guesswork out.  Do you ever wonder if you should attach the sashing to the top, the bottom, or both the top and bottom of a row?  The answer to this conundrum is included in the Gradient pattern.  :)

As per my usual, this pattern includes as many sizes as work out mathematically - and that's six!  This Gradient quilt is the Throw size, which measures approximately 59" x 74".  The quilt incorporates a vibrant flow of teals, blue, and purples from corner to corner, with white sashing and solid navy border.

This pattern is also perfect for a rainbow of scraps, so I had to make one from my rainbow scrap collection.  Click here to read about that quilt.

Gradient Includes 6 Sizes!

The Gradient quilt pattern is available in 6 sizes.  So many choices!!  I love giving you all the size options to work with.

Gradient uses subtle hue changes to create an ombre effect diagonally across the quilt top.  Make each colorway a single fabric or use a variety of prints in 7 colorways.  See below for fabric selection tips.

Fabric Selection Tips

The fabrics used for this quilt are blues and purples from Moda Grunge.  These colors have a naturally calming effect, making you want to cozy up in this quilt.  These colors are perfect for modern-day decor!  The names of the fabrics used in this quilt are included inside of the quilt pattern.

Gradient uses 7 different fabrics to create an ombre illusion across the quilt top.  Here are some ideas for fabric selection.
  • A rainbow of seven colorways - Click here to see a quilt made like this.
  • Three colorways, with a range of hues in each colorway.  This quilt is made like this.  There are three teals, one navy, and three purples.
  • Two colorways, with a range of hues in each colorway.  Click here to see a quilt made like this.  There are four blues and three purples.

Longarm Quilting

Gradient was quilted with the Mirage digital design by Hermione Agee (purchased at Lorien Quilting) on my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher with navy blue thread.  The design was sized at 17" in height, but I think 14"-15" would be a better fit, as the 17" barely fit on the longarm after the quilt was advanced on the rails a few times.

Quilt Stats

  • Quilt size ~ Throw 59" x 74"
  • Fabric ~ Moda Grunge - exact colors are listed inside the quilt pattern
  • Longarm Quilting Design ~ Mirage by Hermione Agee, purchased at Lorien Quilting.
  • Backing  ~ Mixed Watercolor Texture in Dark Blue from Color Stories by Stephanie Ryan Collection for P & B Textiles
