Today I'm sharing a Hampton Court quilt in the Throw size!  This quilt was finished about five months ago, and I didn't get around to blogging about it.  Today is the day!

The Hampton Court quilt pattern is in the Busy Hands Quilts shop right here.

The Hampton Court Design

The Hampton Court quilt design is based on King Henry VIII's castle from the 1500s.  The design, made from varying brick sizes, can be found in the brickwork of the exterior of the castle.

Strip Pieced or Traditionally Pieced?

You get to choose!  The Hampton Court quilt pattern includes both strip piecing and traditional piecing.  Of course, strip piecing goes together MUCH more quickly than sewing together individual bricks.  The one downfall of strip piecing is that you have less control over where each fabric falls in the quilt, but after making several Hampton Court quilts, I can definitively tell you that it really doesn't matter.  Occasionally the same fabric will end up next to another brick of the same fabric, and it's totally A-okay, unless, of course, a bunch of them ended up placed by each other.  To help keep this from happening, use more prints.  The pattern suggests a minimum of 13 prints, and I'd say that's bare minimum - use loads!

Garden Delight Fabrics are Delightful!

This Throw size Hampton Court quilt is made entirely with with Garden Delights prints by In the Beginning.  There are three Garden Delights collections so far, and they all play well together.  They are tiny florals that make my heart sing!  These fabrics had been in my stash for a long time, awaiting the perfect pattern.

You'll find a bunch of Garden Delights fabrics right here and here.

The white in the background of the fabric is a mix of tone-on-tone whites, not solid white.  The pictures don't seem to capture this very well.

So Many Sizes!

The Hampton Court quilt pattern includes 4 sizes - Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  The Baby size didn't work out in preserving the design, so it's not included.  But hey, four sizes means you're very likely to use the pattern more than once!  :)

Longarm Quilting

The longarm quilting design is Woven Wind, a digital design, completed in white thread on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher.  I love the texture of this design across the quilt, as well as the old-fashioned vibe it gives, all the while being modern in its density and repeat.  Modern quilting designs seem to be fairly dense and a very simple repeat over and over, such as is found in this design.

This quilt top was made by my professional sewist Kare and quilted and bound by me.
