Today I'm sharing a Waterfall II quilt made by Deanna! This is a FIRE quilt!
A few months ago on a whim, Deanna emailed a picture of her quilt top to me, and it totally blew me away with how beautiful it was! Soon it was on its way to me in the mail for quilting, binding, and a session of photography.
This quilt is the inspiration for the FIRE quilt kits that are going live in the shop very, very soon! Sign up for the Busy Hands Quilts newsletter to receive a reminder so you don't miss them (the newsletter has a lot of different content than these blog posts).
The Waterfall II Quilt Pattern
This stunning quilt pattern includes 6 gradating, ombre fabrics (or any combination you like!) with a background sashing. The design is carried out clear to the edges of the quilt for a fantastic finish along the edges.
The Throw and Queen sizes are included in the quilt pattern.
What is the difference between this Waterfall II quilt pattern and the original Waterfall? This one uses 7 fabrics total, and the original Waterfall pattern uses 13 fabrics total, in two different colorways.
Fabric Selection
Deanna chose solids for her quilt top, and it turned out fantastic! Tone on tones in this color scheme would also look amazing.
A single colorway is perfect for Waterfall II - blues, aquas, purples, pinks, greens - or almost a single colorway as in this quilt. It's all in the red/orange family until BAM - you hit that purple that stops you in your tracks with how stunning it is!
We have found a wonderful fabric collection that highlights the purple, red, orange, and yellow color scheme perfectly. Here is a mockup of Waterfall II with the fabrics in the quilt kit. It's even more stunning in person, and I can't wait to show you!
Wide Backing and Longarm Quilting
The backing on this quilt is Widescreen in Black by Robert Kaufman, usually available in The Wide Back Shop at Busy Hands Quilts, but currently out of stock at the distributor even. Some fabrics are very difficult to get these days.
The longarm digital quilting design is Cultivar, which looks like flames, in orange thread, quilted on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher. The peekaboo orange on the blackish backing is very nice. I like the quilting thread to blend into the backing fabric, and this hint of orange is just perfect and isn't overwhelming.
Sewn into the binding is a tiny little label that reads, "I Love You" on a red heart.
The Waterfall II quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.
